Biblical Studies Courses at Luther King House Theological College

LKH is a Christian theological college in the heart of Manchester with a range of Bible courses on offer. We offer biblical studies degree level courses to suit all interests, abilities and levels of experience, from introductory to advanced, so whether you are an experienced minister or church leader, or new to Christianity and the Bible, our theology and Bible college has a course for you.

Most of our Bible courses are modules from our BA or MA degree programmes in Contextual Theology. You can enrol on any of our biblical courses on a not-for-credit basis, whether for personal interest or professional development; or apply to study on our undergraduate or postgraduate contextual theology degree courses in order to obtain an academic qualification (MA, BA, Diploma or Certificate in Contextual Theology).

We also offer a postgraduate doctoral theology degree, leading to the award of an MPhil or PhD.  Our theology degrees are all validated by the University of Manchester.

Currently, our BA and MA Bible courses include:

  • Introduction to Biblical Studies
  • Selected Biblical Texts and Themes
  • Old Testament Texts
  • New Testament Texts
  • The Bible and the Making of the People of God
  • Paul’s Gospel in Rome
  • The Bible in a Postmodern Context
  • Contemporary Controversies in Biblical Studies

Most of these courses are taught on a weekly basis across 8 to 16 weeks, whilst some are taught in more intensive blocks to allow greater flexibility.

Our undergraduate and postgraduate theology and Bible degree courses are flexible and affordable, with part and full time study options, and SLC loans and grants available for eligible students.

Although we don’t offer online distance learning degrees, we combine face to face teaching with online support, so you can do much of your learning from a distance.  For part-time students, our flexible timetable and teaching patterns allow you to study alongside work and other commitments without needing to attend college on a weekly basis.

In addition to these biblical studies degree level courses, our Open Learning Programme incorporates a wide range of day workshops, lectures, conferences and access course, which often include a focus on understanding and interpreting the Bible in Christian ministry and discipleship.

It is also possible to focus on a particular area of biblical interest (e.g. a particular book of the Bible, or biblical theme) through our individually guided Explorations independent study programme, which enables you to tailor your reading and research with tutorial support from an expert in your specific field of interest. This includes 6 months’ full membership of our library.

To enrol on any of our biblical studies courses, or our Explorations programme, complete and return our module registration form, or for more information about these and other theology courses and events on offer at Luther King House, see our Open Learning Programme, or contact the LKH Registry Office.
