Library Closure Information Updated 04/11/2020

Temporary Building Closure: Updated 04/01/21 

Due to National Lockdown restrictions, the Luther King House building will remain closed until the restrictions are eased.
We apologise for any inconvenience caused and hope you understand why this decision was necessary. I will provide regular updates of any developments or changes to the library service.
During this time there will be no access to the library building. However arrangements can be made if you need to collect and/ or return books. We will also continue to offer the postal loan service.

Changes to the library opening times:

Monday: 9am – 7pm

Tuesday: 9am – 5pm

Wednesday: 9am – 5pm

Thursday: 9am – 5pm

Friday: 9am – 5pm

Saturday: Closed

Sunday: Closed

There will be no access to the library outside of these hours.

 Changes to library staffing times

Study area

Study spaces must be booked in advanced by emailing the library: please specify if you require a computer and/ or an independent study room.

There will be no access to the recently published newspapers, magazines and periodicals.


Hand sanitiser and antibacterial wipes will be available as you enter the library.

All touch-points such as door handles will be wiped down regularly through the day.

There is no food or drink to be consumed on the library premises.

Please wear a face covering (this does not apply to those with medical conditions who are unable to wear a face covering).

Borrowing and returning books

All books for return must be placed in the returns box located at the library entrance.

Return books will be quarantined for 72 hours before being removed from your library account.

Where possible please request books for collection in advance of your visit, either through the library catalogue or by contacting the library directly.

Renewing and Reserving books

All library books will be renewed automatically until 11th September, after this day it is the responsibility of the library member to renew their own library books.

We will begin taking reservations for books that are currently on loan from 1st September, if a book you have on loan is requested by another member you must return it on or before its due date. If for any reason you are unable to return a book that has been requested by another member please contact the library.


Books sale room

The book sale room will remain closed until further notice.

External Library Membership

All external library memberships have been extended by six months to compensate for the period we have been closed.
