Luther King House Open College

LKH is made up of several theological colleges. These include church denominational colleges, where those preparing for specific forms of ministry come to train, and our Open College where those applying direct to LKH find a home. Almost all our learning takes place together, but Open College provides important help, support and guidance for all those who come to study contextual theology and who have not been placed with us through their church structures.

College Time

If you are a member of Open College you will find there are specific times when we meet together. These are opportunities to get to know one another, to explore issues related to our studies and our own church contexts, and to deepen our study skills. The programme is varied and we always make sure there are times in the year when we can relax and enjoy food together!

Staff

The Principal of Open College is the Revd Dr Kim Wasey. In addition, the Revd Graham Sparkes serves as a Tutor for Open College, as does Dr Richard Benda and Mabel Nyazika as a part-time Personal Tutor. The Administrator for Open College is Clare Richardson and she is assisted in the Registry Office by Paul Barrett. There are a number of other tutors who are employed by the other colleges but work together as a single team, so you will meet them as well.

Personal Tutor

All Open College students have a personal tutor from among the academic staff team at LKH. Your personal tutor is your key contact for spiritual, pastoral, personal, developmental and general academic support. You meet with your personal tutor three times a year to talk through any concerns, to ensure your studies are progressing well, and to carry out an annual review. But you can always see your personal tutor at other times should you wish. We aim to ensure you have all the support you need!
